Baby Camping Essentials

Baby Camping Essentials

We took our first ever camping trip with our 10-month-old Graham at Red River Gorge in Kentucky. We had so much fun! Although the weather didn’t cooperate perfectly and we had to turn our camping trip into a “glamping” trip for the second night, we learned a lot about car camping with a baby! There are definitely some things that you will want to have on hand to make things a little easier!

  1. Little Mo Wearable Sleeping Bag

  2. Osprey Poco

  3. Portable High Chair

  4. Portable Crib

  5. Sound Machine

  6. Bike Trailer

  7. Sunscreen

  8. Medicine/First Aid Kit

  9. Caddy

  10. Pop-Up Play Area

Little Mo Baby Sleeping Bag

Our first camping trip with baby Graham would have been a complete disaster without this! It got a lot colder than we had expected overnight and both Nate & I were pretty cold! Graham on the other hand was very cozy and slept great all night! He also napped great in this. We love the fabric and the different features like the flaps that fold over the hands and how easy it is to zip up!

#2: Osprey Poco

One of the best rated packs for carrying a child on a hike, we understand why the Poco is on this list! Our favorite part about this pack is how easily he can sleep in it. He can rest his head right on the front & snooze while we hike. It also has a great sun shade and works comfortably for both of our body shapes!

#3 Portable High Chair

Something that keeps our little one happy? Snacks (and more snacks!) This portable chair is perfect for camping (and really anything on the go!) We love this because it is easy to set up, easy to clean and folds up very small! Even when we travel by air we’ll be taking this with us in the car seat or stroller bag!

#4 Portable Travel Crib

A safe place for baby to sleep is important to us! We love our pack n’ play if we’re going somewhere for a longer period of time, but when we are going somewhere for a night or two and want something that is simple and easy to put up, we love our travel crib. This is especially great because when you’re sleeping on the ground beside them you can just open the zipper to get them out!

#5 Sound Machine

This is a must for us when we go anywhere! Especially when camping, you’ll have some sounds that baby isn’t quite used to! Our permanent baby monitor (the Miku!!) has a sound machine right on it, but this is great for on the go! We like this sound machine so much, we’ve started to use it in our room when we’re not traveling. The battery life is great!

#6 Bike Trailer

When we camp, we love to bike as well! Whether this is just around the campground or on bike trails in the town nearby. Graham loves this trailer & we love being able to do something we love with him!

#7 Sunscreen

An obvious need for when you’re out and about in nature.

#8 Meds

Hopefully you don’t need any of these when you’re camping, but it’s always great to have just in case!

#9 Diaper Caddy

Having something set up and organized that you can easily grab things is really nice! Car camping lends to a bit of chaos because you have so much stuff piled up in the trunk or truck bed. We like a plastic version so that you can put it on the ground & just wipe dirt/water off.

#10 Pop-Up Play Area

This is a super easy pop up area that is great for while you’re setting up the tent or just hanging around the fire to keep baby contained!

Positive Attitude

With anything involving a baby & travel, you’re going to run into some hiccups. Travel with a baby is definitely harder than just solo, but the memories that you make are so worth it! If you go in knowing that everything isn’t going to be perfect, you’ll end up having a much better time! A positive attitude is everything when camping with your little one!
